Game Review: Pirate Cove by Boardam

Pirate Cove is an interesting game that I enjoyed playing (mainly because I've already won twice). I like the fact that you can win the game by either having great guessing skills or just having a truck load of luck on your side. I like to think that I have a little bit of both.
The game is about English Bulldogs and Caribbean Cats (who are apparently both pirates?) fighting for the right to own the "Pirate Cove". I am honestly a little confused to whom the cove originally belonged to but I guess it's sort of irrelevant to know since you're battling to take custody of it anyway...
Pirate Cove is a game that requires two people to play. I find it quite interesting that both players will have different roles depending on what side they take. If a player chooses the English Bulldogs' side then their role is to use their cannons to attack the ship the Caribbean Cats are in; The Caribbean Cats on the other hand, need to keep dodging the cannon balls the opponent will throw their way.
There are nine tiles at the middle of the game board with the numbers 1 to 9; Those tiles are the places that the Caribbean Cats' ship could be placed and it is also where the English Bulldogs can attack. The players will also have cards to draw from; Within the cards are also the numbers 1 to 9 which will represent the tiles on the board. This is where the difference between the two sides are shown. While the players that use the Bulldogs can pick up to 5 cards (which are places to attack), the Cats can only pick one but that makes sense since you can't be in two places at once.
The only thing that I think is lacking in Pirate Cove is the actions you can do when using The Caribbean Cats since the only thing that you can do is... pick a card and hope you don't get hit. I found it a little more fun to play the English Bulldogs since they have a wider set of options - Like adding more power to their cannons at the cost of narrowing the places they can attack. I'm hoping that they will make more optional moves for the game but since it's only in its prototype stage, I am confident that they will be able to improve their game and make it even more entertaining than it is now.
Overall, I think the game is fun to play with friends and the visuals of the board game are well-made and also quite relaxing to look at. I recommend that people should play it to pass the time or when you just want to effectively creep out your friends by claiming you can read their minds. I look forward to playing it again sometime in the future.
